is it ok for a male to get a manicure and pedicure?

Question by BC: is it ok for a male to get a manicure and pedicure?
I know its looked down on by many men. But I do like my nails to look nice. lately I guess due to axiety I have bitten all of my nails and they look pretty bad. Sometimes I find myself bitting them and not even noticing at first. Are there any ways to stop bitting instead of the obvious answer just stop bitting them? Also I lately have been thinking if I do go to a nail shop to get my toes also done. No color or girly stuff just get them done and have them looking nice. I have no corns or anything but to me my nails look pretty bad. there no discoloration or anything just seriously need to be done. Should I been embarrased about getting them done? Also how much would a Pedicure and medicure cost together and seperate?

What is the difference between a manicure and a pedicure?

Question by pinkypop: What is the difference between a manicure and a pedicure?
I think manicures are for hands while pedicures are for feet… but what is it exactly, as in what do they do to the nails? What does it look like?

manicures are for hands, and usually have a flower, or brighter colors. pedicures are for feet, an usually are a darker color, like a deep red.

I’ve never gotten a Manicure or Pedicure, what should i expect?

Question by headruch14: I’ve never gotten a Manicure or Pedicure, what should i expect?
I’m 15, and i’ve never gotten a manicure or pedicure. My cousin is getting married and I want to make sure my nails look good. What should I expect? Also, I bite my nails, so they are very short and I play soccer so we get this thing called turf-toe that makes your nails cracked and stuff. and I have a bunch of calluses, so yeah. What should I expect and what type of design or paint should i get?

I own a salon so my answers might be biased…..

I have seen every kind of toe nail and finger nail imaginable. If you are going to a mani/pedi store in the mall or a strip mall, be VERY careful! Do NOT shave before you go. Make sure you ask that they use ONLY clean instruments on your feet and hands. Be observant of all the files and buffers they use. Make sure they are clean and new if possible. Otherwise you may contract an infection or fungus. As a safety precaution I would suggest you soak your feet and hands in a half and half solution of white vinegar and water with 1/2 tsp. of bleach for 15 minutes after you come back from the salon.

If they are a good, reputable store, you should expect to be bathed and pampered for around $ 50-$ 100 depending on the part of the country you are in. A good foot soak and scrub will remove most of the calluses but don’t let them take all of them. Your feet will be sore. Do not let anyone clip the cuticles on your hands or feet as this leads to disease of the nails. Your cuticles are there for a reason. But they should use a solution and tool to remove any dried cuticles. A good buff on the toe nails will make your feet pretty even if you do have turf-toe. :) Chose a pretty color for your toes and just have a french manicure on your hands. Even short nails look better with french manicure. Ask for a cute flower design with stones on your big toes. They last as long as the polish does so expect about two weeks worth of wear from your pedicure. Manicures don’t last as long, especially if you put your fingers in your mouth alot. Have fun! And most of all, relax and enjoy the sensation!!! Oh, and wear flip flops or sandals. You don’t want to mess up your new pedicure till it dries, about an hour for most polishes, but I’d just wear open toed shoes the rest of the day. Have fun!!!

After yesterday’s revelation that I need a pedicure, I now realise I need a manicure as well. I’ll put it on my list for tomorrow evening I think. Maybe I can get some better shots then.

See how I can’t keep my nails long – the ones I use the most anyway. Thumbnails never get longer than this.

I was able to act like a retired person today. I got up later than usual and went to the Hair Clinic for a shampoo and set. Jim arrived just as I was ready to leave. Mary Clark cut his hair, and he invited her to have lunch with us at the VCC. The food was delicious as usual. Jim and I went to the gas station, and he filled my car in preparation for my trip tomorrow. Then I drove back over the mall area and got a pedicure and manicure at U.S. Nails. I had intended to pack today, but I procrastinated, as usual. I did some more research on vacationing in the Houston area. Carl called, and we discussed some of our options for day trips. He is taking off both Friday and Monday; so, we’ll have Friday evening, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday to drive around looking for photo opportunities. I’ve charged some camera batteries, downloaded some photos from my SD cards, downloaded some movies from my Flip video, and have CD-RW’s ready to pack since I don’t plan to take my own computer with me. I’ve also decided to take my Nikon D80 with the zoom lens only.

Some ideas of places to see in Texas:
1. George Ranch Historical Park – drove by it!
2. Brazos Bend State Park – went there and saw about 1/4 of the park.
3. Concert in Lake Jackson, Veterans Memorial Plaza – did not attend.
4. Boat Tour of Buffalo Bayou to see Waugh Bridge Bat Colony – did not ride or see.
5. Brazonia County Fair – did not attend.
6. Haak Vineyards – did not visit.
7. Old Town Spring – did not go there.
8. BJ’s Restaurant - ate a delicious meal there.
9. Texas Renaissance Festival, Plantersville – did not attend.
10. 2nd Annual Bayou City Shrimp Festival at Traders Village – went there and had a good time.
11. See Terra Cotta Warriors Exhibit @ Houston Museum of Natural Science – went there and saw the exhibit.
12. Beer Can House – did not see.
13. The Orange Show – did not see.
14. Space Center Houston in Harris, TX – did not visit there.
15. Downtown Aquarium – did not go there.
16. Houston Zoo – saw the outside but didn’t go inside – CLOSED.
17. Museum of Fine Arts – did not visit.
18. Houston Arboretum and Nature Center – did not go there.
19. Buffalo Soldiers National Museum – did not go there.
20. Discovery Green – did not see it.

I’m packing my clothes to go to the technology conference. I’m leaving right after school on Tuesday. It’s about 10 degrees colder in Atlanta than in south Georgia; so, I’ll need to layer my clothes. It was good to have an extra hour (Fall Back) to try on clothes and put together outfits.

This morning I went to the beauty shop and got my hair washed, rolled, dried, and combed. Then I went to U.S. Nails for a pedicure and manicure. He took the corn off the side of my foot. Then I walked to Goody’s to get some kneehighs and socks. Well, I ended up buying several pieces of clothing. At least most pieces were about 50% off the regular price. Since I couldn’t find any kneehighs at Goody’s, I stopped at the Colonial Mall because I knew that Belk’s had a big hosiery department. Well…..that is no longer true. They’ve put it in a corner near the back. I did buy a few pairs of kneehighs and some more socks.

After I got home I graded a few papers, filed them, and put the grades in my online Gradebook.

There are always many things to do before a trip.
